This year I published 47 newsletters on Substack, including this one.
My one-year Substack anniversary was in April.
In 2024, I published nearly every week - 47 out of 52.
I learned consistency and got better at publishing posts that were “good enough” rather than trying for “perfect.”
I learned a bit more about the app, and I still haven’t used all the features.
I gravitated to Substack, because it felt like a good alternative to social media.
And, yet, it seems to have become more and more like social media in the time I’ve been here.
It’s a conundrum.
As I wrote last December, in “Year end musings,” the turning of the year is a good time to look back and reflect.
It’s a good time to think about what to add and what to subtract.
It’s a good time to think about “Less is more.”
What does this mean for my activity here?
Do I still aim to post weekly?
Or do I want to focus some of my creative energy elsewhere?
I’m thinking about that.
I hope you also have time to pause, to reflect, to relax, to renew.
I’ll see you in the new year!
With care and gratitude,
Mary

Recently, in the aisles of a big box retailer, I saw gift sets of all kinds ready to entice buyers. Many of the items were frivolous or decorative rather than utilitarian. That’s not to say every item has to have a purpose. But I do wonder how …
