Lots of feelings came up when I read this. Too much to write about. To summarize what I felt is that different perspectives are what make life so interesting but also what make life so hard!
I had originally written something quite a bit longer, but it was going in too many directions. Plus, there were some mixed/strong feelings in there. Like, are my feelings on point of view not considering all points of view?!?! Ha! Lots to think about, anyway...
Yes - complicated. Very hard to consider all points of view. It's like being in charge of making dinner for the family every night and trying to balance nutrition with likes and dislikes. We will never make everyone happy, but we try. Even when we try to consider points of views of all parties - we will never be able to please all of the people all of the time. Exhausting!
I think it's less about trying to please everyone and more about understanding where they're coming from and why their actions/choices/opinions/options might be different.
For example, someone who makes double or triple my income will likely spend their money differently than I do. If they ask me to join them in an investment or on a luxury vacation or in an extravagant purchase, they might try to understand the perspective that I live on much less and won't be able to do that.
Yes, in that example of actions/choices/opinions/options is not about pleasing. I guess I was thinking in terms of having a group of people that have to make a decision that impacts everyone - like a meal, roommate expenses, a way to complete a work project. Everyone brings their own perspective, but not everyone will be able to get what they want. Even in a compromise, someone gives up something.
Two different scenarios for looking at how different perspectives impact decisions.
Yes, that's definitely much trickier. I hadn't thought specifically of that type of situation. As you said, not everyone will get what they want. Good point - thanks for sharing. I love the dialogue!

Yes, Sandy - exactly! It's complicated.
