The name and theme of this newsletter - “In Between” - can be interpreted in a number of ways. We human beings like to mark time by ages and events and seasons, and we’re always in between one thing and the next.
In my newsletter description, I write:
I contemplate and write about living authentically and fully through both the magical moments and the messy ones. All of it. And everything in between.
We give short shrift to the in between at times. We tend toward the big and flashy and neglect the little everyday moments. That’s a reason to practice mindfulness, for sure.
Yesterday was a warm and sunny day where I live. I hung laundry outside, filling four lines with flapping clothing. The sunshine, warmth, and wind dried it quickly. Temperatures reached near the 80s. On the flip side, today is cold (40s) and rainy.
We take it all, the warm Saturday and the cold Sunday. We make room for it all, because that’s how it goes.

I was thinking of the phrase “rejection is redirection.” It’s a useful little idea. Of course, sometimes rejection is just rejection. And that’s that. I had an idea for a while to make a little video about writer rejection, with a dash of humor. It came to me while driving to work one day. Here’s that video:
In the caption I posted with the video on social media, I write:
Imperfection... This video is a concept I've had in my mind for a while. So, I thought I'd knock it out on a Sunday morning. It's not exactly how I envisioned, and also it's good enough.
The reframe is that just because things are not how we imagined, doesn’t mean they aren’t also good enough or even beyond our expectations.
Recently, I saw this quote on Substack:
It’s another excellent reminder about reframing.
Perhaps, like me, you sometimes get stuck in a scarcity mindset. The quote above points to that: “The world is vast. There’s room.”
That’s not just in terms of creative work. It can be applied to so many areas of our lives, where we can reframe, where we can make room for it all.

May we cultivate attitudes of acceptance and abundance and awe!
There is so much to appreciate everywhere and in between.
Thanks for reading!
With gratitude,
Mary
In case you missed it, I shared this humorous video a couple of weeks ago:
The world is vast. There's room.
I'm writing poems today. Not good ones. But playing with words. Feeling the rhythm and the emotion of the words and the images.
The world is vast. There's room.
Thanks, Mary! Always so encouraging.
